After numerous failed attempts at destroying his enemies who thwarted his plans for world domination, the timeless Apocalypse kidnapped the son of X-Factor's leader, Cyclops. Apocalypse's plans were not only for vengeance. He had other plans for baby Nathan. infecting him with slowly killing his fragile form was part of them. In a desperate attempt to save his dying son, Cyclops sent him into a future where he was never to see him again.
