Birth of the U.S. Navy
This year, the United States Navy celebrates its 217th birthday. This proud institution was created by our Congress to arm and equip ships during the Revolutionary War. The newly formed Naval operation played an important part in the war against England, having captured over 700 British ships. Over two centuries later, the former adversaries, now long-time allies, are joining forces in Operation Desert Storm to fight a common enemy.
